A T-profile transition strip is specifically designed to bridge same-level expansion joints between two flooring surfaces — for example, tile meeting tile or tile meeting wood. Unlike an L-profile (used for height differences or carpet edges) or a reducer strip (for slight height transitions), the T-profile sits symmetrically over the gap with a flat top and a central anchoring stem beneath. The IDP-0021S is the ideal choice when both floors are at equal height and you need a flush, decorative cover without surface screws.

Aluminium strikes the optimal balance between durability, weight, and aesthetics. Unlike PVC, aluminium will not flex under load, discolour with UV exposure, or crack in temperature extremes. Compared to stainless steel, aluminium is significantly lighter (making installation easier), naturally corrosion-resistant, and more cost-effective per metre. The IDP-0021S combines these advantages with a polished silver finish that rivals the look of stainless steel at a fraction of the cost.

Each IDP-0021S bar is 2,500 mm (2.5 metres) long. Measure the total linear length of all expansion joints you need to cover, then divide by 2.5 to calculate the number of bars required. For doorways (typically 800–900 mm wide), a single bar can cover up to three standard openings. Always purchase a small surplus to account for angled cuts or waste at corners.

The IDP-0021S features a 25 mm face width, which is engineered to comfortably cover standard flooring expansion gaps of approximately 8–15 mm. The central T-stem anchors into the gap itself, while the 25 mm top flange overlaps the edges of both adjacent flooring materials to fully conceal the joint. For wider gaps, a broader profile from our range would be more appropriate.

Installation is straightforward and does not require mechanical surface fixings. The central T-stem is pressed into the expansion gap and secured using tile adhesive or flexible floor sealant applied within the joint. Once the adhesive cures, the profile is firmly anchored. To cut the bar to length, a standard mitre saw or hacksaw with an aluminium-rated blade is sufficient. At only 0.1 kg per bar, it is easy to handle and position during installation.

Yes. The polished silver finish on the IDP-0021S is applied to a heavy-duty extruded aluminium substrate that resists bending and warping under sustained foot traffic. Aluminium is inherently resistant to rust and corrosion, so the surface will not degrade in humid environments such as bathrooms or kitchens. For extremely abrasive industrial environments, an anodised or powder-coated variant may offer additional surface hardness, but for residential and commercial office use, the polished finish is fully adequate.

Yes. Exposed tile edges at expansion joints are vulnerable to impact chipping from foot traffic and trolley wheels. The IDP-0021S T-Profile covers both tile edges simultaneously with its 25 mm aluminium flange, absorbing impact and distributing load away from the fragile ceramic or porcelain corners. Once installed, the aluminium acts as a permanent protective cap, preventing further edge damage and giving the joint a clean, finished appearance.

The IDP-0021S significantly reduces moisture ingress by covering the open gap with a continuous aluminium strip. When the T-stem is bedded into flexible floor sealant (rather than rigid tile adhesive) during installation, it creates a semi-sealed joint that resists water penetration. For wet areas such as bathrooms or commercial kitchens where full waterproofing is critical, we recommend using a flexible, waterproof floor sealant throughout the joint before fitting the profile, ensuring the sub-floor remains fully protected.

Lifting is a common problem with surface-screwed or adhesive-tape-mounted transition strips, especially in areas with thermal expansion cycles. The IDP-0021S solves this with its screw-free T-stem anchoring design — the central vertical leg is embedded directly into tile adhesive or floor sealant within the joint itself, creating a mechanical lock that resists both vertical lifting and lateral movement. Because the fixing point is below the surface rather than on top of it, the profile remains securely seated even as surrounding floor materials expand and contract seasonally.
